Wave Loft comprises of 9 SOHO towers being masterplanned over an on area of 3.8 hectares. The brief requests for a unique facade language to be developed to match the function and give an identity to development. The site is adjacent to the South China Sea. To introduce the feeling of lightness and movement, a pattern of overlapping vertical fins was applied. Two layers – 300mm and 500mm of the facade elements play well together with gently curved shapes of the buildings leading the sight along the key urban elevation. The selection and proportions of the vertical elements were intended to provide shading without obstructing views, as well as provide privacy to future users. The podium slab cantilevers beyond the retail street’s facade to highlight the horizontal volumes, giving them the impression of flowing in the air. After carefully testing several options on physical and digital 3D models we accomplished the final result that satisfies both aesthetical and practical requirements.
